Delight in a festive glazed ham, beautifully adorned with pineapple and cherries. This simple recipe infuses sweet and spice, making it perfect for special occasions and family gatherings!

Ingredients

  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 80 ml maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice
  • 5 cans (440 g each) pineapple slices in juice, drained (juice reserved)
  • 7-8 kg whole leg ham, on the bone
  • 150 g glace cherries
  • 500 ml water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Place the oven shelf in the lowest position and line a large roasting pan with baking paper.
  2. In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, maple syrup, Chinese five spice, and 125 ml of reserved pineapple juice. Heat on low until the sugar dissolves, then simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Cut a zig-zag pattern around the ham's shank and remove the rind. Decorate the ham with pineapple rings and glace cherries, securing with toothpicks as needed.
  4. Pour water into the roasting pan and place the ham on a wire rack. Brush one-third of the glaze over the ham and bake for 40 minutes. Rotate the pan, add half the remaining glaze, and bake for another 40 minutes until golden.
  5. Brush with the remaining glaze and let the ham rest for 15 minutes before carving. Remove toothpicks and enjoy!
